Province-Specific Services: New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Educational Computer Network
The NB/PEI Educational Computer Network (ECN), founded in 1970, connects all of the public universities in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, the Maritime College of Forest Technology, Holland College, the New Brunswick Community College, the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick and the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission. The primary service provided by the network is connectivity among its members and to the wider world. Additional benefits include joint purchasing and licensing, IT services, professional development, cyber security initiatives and the delivery of network-based services and information exchange. The ECN is overseen by a Board of Directors, and administered by the Network Committee. The MPHEC provides support to, and participates in, ECN meetings of both the Network Committee and the Board. The MPHEC is responsible for the administration of the Provincial funding provided by both NB and PEI governments as well as the preparation and administration of the annual budget and annual report.
