Reminder: Distribution of Program Proposals
Please note that, as per the Commission’s policy, Academic Program Assessment Prior to Implementation, any program proposal submitted to the Commission for review between December 9, 2024 and January 3, 2025 will be held in abeyance and distributed to institutions on January 6, 2025. The timeline for a decision (of either approval or Stage II Assessment) through the Stage I process, will therefore be lengthened accordingly. [Note: Proposals received until December 6 will be distributed according to the standard distribution process.]

If you received a bachelor’s degree from a Maritime university in 2018, you may receive an email or telephone invitation to complete the survey from Prairie Research Associates (PRA) on behalf of the MPHEC and your university.
If you complete the survey, you will be offered a chance to win a grand prize of $2,000 or one of eight prizes of $500 cash.

These measures inform questions about the general demand for universities in the region, the extent to which a province's universities serve its population and the tendency for a provincial population to engage in a university education in the region, or anywhere in Canada.

Annual Digest: University Enrolment 2022-2023
The MPHEC today released its Annual Digest on university enrolment which contains a series of summary tables and charts of provincial and Maritime-level statistics, showing trends over one, five and 10 years. The report shows that in 2022-2023, 72,969 students were enrolled in Maritime universities, up 1.5% over one year and 3.8% over ten years.

Guidelines for Institutional Frameworks for Online and Technology-Supported Learning
The MPHEC’s Guidelines for Institutional Frameworks for Online and Technology-Supported Learning has been released. Maritime institutions will be required to incorporate the recommended definitions for delivery modes and develop and submit to the MPHEC an institutional framework that is aligned to the MPHEC’s Guidelines.

The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Degree Progression
The MPHEC has released today a report on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on student enrolment and their progression towards a first university degree during the 2020-2021 academic year. Overall enrolment in the region in fall 2020 remained stable despite a decrease in the number of first-year students and international students. The report reveals that students who were already enrolled in a Maritime university in 2019-2020 re-enrolled in greater numbers during the first year of the pandemic than in previous years.

The report shows that in 2021-2022, 71,911 students were enrolled in Maritime universities, an increase of 1.9% over the previous year and 8.7% over five years.
