MPHEC Standard for Maintaining Confidentiality
A core part of the Commission’s mandate is to ensure that data and information is collected, maintained and made available for assuring the public accountability of institutions, and to assist institutions and the Provinces in their work. Along with that mandate comes the crucial responsibility to safeguard the data collected, and to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of personal information contained in the data. The Standard is an important means by which we can reassure our data providers that data security and confidentiality are of paramount concern.
The Commission developed the first version of its Standard in 2001 as a means to codify its internal practices and protocols in the context of legislative requirements in the region. The document is reviewed annually (which includes an in-house staff refresher) and updated as necessary. The Standard was last updated in April 2017.
