MARITIME PROVINCES HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION – A Great University Experience in One Picture: Share Your Thoughts and Win!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 18, 2017

Get your cameras out! The Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission (MPHEC) is launching its fifth-annual Student Photo Contest. All students enrolled at a Maritime university are eligible and invited to participate by submitting a photo that sums up what a high-quality student experience means to them. Three talented photographers will win cash prizes for their photos.

In the five years since it was first launched, the Student Photo Contest has enjoyed an overwhelmingly positive response, receiving submissions from students at each and every university in the Maritimes. MPHEC Interim CEO Catherine Stewart is eager to see what students will come up with this year. “This contest provides students with the chance to share their priorities, vision, and outlook on what makes a great university experience,” says Stewart. “Students are at the heart of our mandate to improve the post-secondary learning environment, so their perspective is an essential contribution to the work being done by the MPHEC”.

The winning photographer will receive a cash prize of $500 and two runners up will each receive $250. The winning photographs from previous years (posted on the MPHEC website) range from artistic, to silly, to inspiring, demonstrating the variety of ways students find value in higher education.

The deadline for submissions is January 17, 2018 and winners will be announced by March 30th, 2018. Additional details on the contest, including rules and entry forms, are available at: www.mphec.ca

The MPHEC was established in 1974. The MPHEC is an arm’s length organization accountable to the ministers responsible for post-secondary education in the Maritimes. The Commission comprises 20 members representing universities, the public-at-large (including students), and the three Maritime governments. The Commission’s primary orientation in carrying out its duties is to give first consideration to improving and maintaining the best possible service to students as lifelong learners.
