MARITIME PROVINCES HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION –A Great University Experience in One Picture: Share Your Thoughts and Win!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

September 26, 2016

The Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission (MPHEC) is launching its fourth-annual Student Photo Contest. All students enrolled at a Maritime university are eligible to participate by submitting a photo that sums up what a high-quality student experience means to them. Three talented photographers will win cash prizes for their photos.

In the four years since it was first launched, the Student Photo Contest has enjoyed an overwhelmingly positive response. Each year students send ever more thoughtful, funny, and beautiful entries celebrating the student experience.  MPHEC CEO Mireille Duguay is eager to keep up the tradition. “The MPHEC works closely with institutions to ensure quality university education in the Maritimes, but students are always at the heart of our work,” says Duguay. “This contest is a perfect opportunity, and a really fun way, for students to share their perspectives on what makes a great university experience.”

The photographer submitting the winning entry will receive $500 and two runners up will receive $250 each. The three winning photographs from last year’s contest (posted on the MPHEC website) range from artistic, to silly, to inspiring, demonstrating the variety of ways students find value in higher education.

Each year students are invited to submit photographs on the same theme: “the student experience,” but Duguay notes that there is no single definition of a good university experience. “Over the past four years, we’ve seen an astounding variety in the photo contest submissions. This really illustrates the complexity of quality in post-secondary education and the different ways students find value in their time at university.”

The deadline for submissions is January 18, 2017 and winners will be announced in early spring 2017. Additional details on the contest, including rules and entry forms, are available at: www.mphec.ca

The MPHEC was established in 1974. The MPHEC is an arm’s length organization accountable to the ministers responsible for post-secondary education in the Maritimes. The Commission comprises 20 members representing universities, the public-at-large (including students), and the three Maritime governments. The Commission’s primary orientation in carrying out its duties is to give first consideration to improving and maintaining the best possible service to students as lifelong learners.
